GEORGETOWN, Texas — A solar roofing company that is considered a competitor to Tesla is opening a huge facility in Williamson County, according to a report from the Austin Business Journal (ABJ).

The ABJ reports that GAF Energy LLC plans to open a 450,000-square-foot manufacturing, office, and research and development facility in Georgetown, near Interstate 35 and Southeast Inner Loop. The Georgetown City Council on July 12 gave the greenlight for several incentive agreements for the $100 million project.

Not much is known about the project, but the ABJ says public documents indicate the company plans to make roof shingles that produce solar energy at the facility.

The facility is expected to be completed by June 2023, and GAF Energy is expected to begin a lease in 2024, ABJ reports. The project is expected to create 265 jobs, with an average salary of at least $60,000, over a five-year period that begins simultaneously with the lease.
