BRYAN, Texas — A Bryan roofing company has introduced a new product to their customers as part of an expansion of their services since April.

The Roofing and Restoration Services of America began offering solar shingles to their customers and recently placed the product at a location in Salado.

 According to Bobby McFarland, a sales manager at the company, the shingles are more visually appealing than the mounted panels.

“A solar shingle pretty much installs the same way as a solar shingle. It goes in, integrates in with normal shingles, you just put it where you need it so it works out pretty good,” said McFarland.

A number of conservation notices have been issued to customers across Texas by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which asks residents and businesses to conserve energy.

 It is also reported that customers across Texas have received higher electric bills than in previous months, which has caused them to consider switching to solar power.

“With electric bills rising it’s becoming more obvious that another way of producing your own energy is really going to make a difference in the future,” said McFarland.

Currently, McFarland has a project in the Brazos Valley involving the installation of solar shingles for customers in Anderson.

 According to the Sales Manager, these shingles would enable more people to produce their own energy rather than rely on others for their energy needs.

“We’re going to continue to use energy. If we can find alternative ways of producing electricity that just helps in general, it’s probably something we need to do,” said McFarland.

McFarland recommended that people who are considering switching to solar get an estimate, examine how much energy they have used in previous months, and contact their business if they have questions at 855-93SOLAR.
